Fairy Play
Directed by Freddy Bendekgey
"Fairy Play" is a 3D animated short film produced at SCAD Atlanta about coming to terms with who we are through the toys we grow up with.
A wooden toy soldier struggles to dance with the princes and princesses of a porcelain world that was not built for them.
Fairy Play heavily utilizes lighting with the purpose of creating sympathy for a character through coding. While character design and performance plays important roles in the narrative, the characters have limited expressiveness, relying on lighting and cinematography to see queer-coded characters in a new light. We also worked with Haus of Bambi to choreograph the Toy Soldier's dance, to finely balance the physical rigidity of the character and fluidity as they express their true selves through dance.
